the peace of wild things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

a love letter for you

i've really been loving the love letters project led by Steven Powers in collaboration with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program. As part of the project there is also a documentary film, two books documenting the project and a sign school that trains people from the local community on sign making to provide new hand-painted signage for local businesses.
you can see more images and read more about the project here .

currently reading & inspired by...

Lena Corwin's "Printing by Hand" has been a great resource and inspiration....i'm looking forward to finally getting some screens burned and start applying some designs on to fabric and portable goods.
adding to the pool of inspiration are these simple, geometric designs by Pawling Print Studio.

well kept secret

While donating blood last week, I met a young man who revealed to me one of San Francisco's best kept secrets,  Pier 24. Pier 24 is  home to the permanent Pilara collection which houses over 2,000 photographs of the 20th and 21st century. At 28,000 square feet, it is one of the largest spaces dedicated to contemporary photography in the country. Open by appointment only and free of charge, Pier 24 aims to be a space that invites a unique and intimate viewing environment open for critical thought and engagement.
